  • Our Board of Directors

    • Peter Hille. Peter is Director of the Brushy Fork Institute, an outreach program of Berea College that helps local leaders build strong organizations to transform Appalachian communities. He is a Swarthmore graduate with an extensive background in small business management and grassroots organizing. He is a founding board member of KEF.

    • Jeanne Marie Hibberd. Jeanne Marie is Development Director for Hindman Settlement School in Hindman, Kentucky. She has been active in local environmental and civic organizing for more than 20 years, and has worked in the grassroots and nonprofit community development arena in Berea and elsewhere in the Appalachian region. She is an active member of the League of Women Voters of Berea and Madison County, and has served as President of the LWV of Kentucky. Jeanne Marie has a BA from Berea College
      .
    • Michael Hannon. Mike is newly retired from his career as an air quality inspector with the Kentucky Department for Natural Resources and Environmental Protection. He is a long-time activist in the chemical weapons issue and is a founding member of Common Ground. Mike is a husband, father and grandfather, and lives in Paint Lick, Kentucky. He is a graduate of Western Kentucky University.

    • Nancy Hindman. Nancy is a mother and a retired professor of psychology at Eastern Kentucky University, with 28 years of higher education and consulting experience. Nancy is a leader of many local community, arts and wellness organizations in Madison County. She and her husband were residents of Richmond, Kentucky for more than 30 years but have recently moved to Berea.

    • Jan Pearce. Jan is a professor of Mathematics and Computer Science at Berea College. In 1994 she developed an environmental modeling course, the first course with an environmental focus to be added to Berea College's regular offerings. She received her Ph.D. in Mathematics from the University of Rochester. She is active in many social justice projects and strives to engage her students. Jan is also involved in traditional dancing associations and lives on a 50-acre farm in Madison County, Kentucky with her partner, a solar and hydroelectric power installer.

    • Tracy Powell-McCoy. Tracy is a mother and life-long resident of Madison County, Kentucky. She holds a BS in Biology with a minor in Chemistry and an MA and Rank 1 in Education from Eastern Kentucky University. Tracy teaches middle school science and in 2003 was named Kentucky’s “Science Teacher of the Year.” She has long been an environmental advocate and serves on the Board of the Kentucky Riverkeepers

    • Craig Williams, ex officio. Craig is past Director of KEF and Director of the Chemical Weapons Working Group, and serves as an ex officio member of the Board in that capacity.
    • Elizabeth Crowe, ex officio. Elizabeth is the Executive Director of KEF and serves as an ex officio member of the Board in that capacity.
